Today was a sweet day.
Really.
The kids fully immersed themselves into the ornament making. I was on scissor duty, & I could barely keep up with them. Our neighbor, Luke, stays with us before & after school a couple days a week, so it was a blast having him join us today.
On the way to the nursing home, I had only one warning for the kids…
No talk about death!
They’ve equated “old” with “death.” So, when talking with an older person, it’s not uncommon to hear from their mouths, “You’re going to die soon” and “How much longer before you die?” Sheesh, nothing like a little death-talk to dampen the Christmas spirit…
We arrived at the nursing home shortly before dinner. I loved watching how the resident’s faces brightened when the kids walked through the door. The tenderness of this evening took my breath away. The way the residents held the kids’ hands, asked questions & treasured the simple paper ornaments was so meaningful. If we can, I definitely want to go back at least once more.
I will always remember this time.
MERRY CHRISTMAS!!
She attached the ornament to her wheelchair – how sweet!

I bet they loved the visit. My grandma loves when we bring her great grandchildren to come and visit at her retirement home.
