Just Like Mom

My Grandma June liked telling Adam a particular story about when I was younger.

There was a fly in our house & she was going to kill it. I stopped her & said, “You can’t kill it! It has a family!”

She always laughed because I was so concerned about a fly!

I’m still the same way.

If there’s a spider in the house, I’ll catch it & let it outside. I’m afraid of spiders, but I still can’t kill ‘em!

The other day, Ava & I were repotting some plants on the kitchen table. All of a sudden, a big spider jumped out & we both screamed! We’re so girlie!! I caught it & then told her to go get Adam. There was no way I was moving the container – that spider was too fast!!

Adam came up & I just assumed he’d put it the spider outside. However, he lifted the container & smacked it on the table. Not quite what I had in mind…

The next morning Ava asked me why Adam killed the spider.

I started to reply, but she continued on:

“You can’t kill them because they are God’s creatures & that isn’t very nice.”

That’s my girl!

    Hey Kelly,

As much as I love you and Ava, I have to go with Adam. If it is hairy, ugly and has 6 or 8 legs there is NO chance it is going to live at my house. Sorry!!

    love,
    missy

I’m with you, Kel. I catch ‘em in a plastic cup and move ‘em on out.

Jeff goes after them with a weedwhacker.

Deep down in your heart I bet you were glad that spider wouldn’t have the chance to jump out of your plant again! Another vote for Adam. Tell Ava at Grandma Paula’s house we do it Adam’s way.

lor – we’ll have to be careful if Adam & Jeff get together – I bet those two would have a hey day demolishing the bugs!

Missy & Paula, I can tell you are sisters!! Paula, Ava still talks about the box elder bugs she remembered seeing at your house when she was, like…2 years old.

Erik, that centipede is creepy…but you should still try to catch ‘em…and then put them outside. ;)

    Kelly,

One more comment, just remember when you take those bugs back outside that they have a meeting later in the day and discuss who’s house is better to live in and they all pick yours. You’ll have spiders coming in all the time – along with all their friends – centipedes too!!

    Love you,
    Missy
